Serene Harbor - Walk A Mile In Her Shoes
Written by Travis GibbTravis Gibb
So, When I was growing up I learned my values from the pages of comic books. I learned my right and wrong from the pages of Spider-Man, Batman, Captain America and the X-Men. I read these comics and learned how to treat my family, my friends and everyone in society. In these comic book the superhero swings and saves the girl. This vision of the world often got me in trouble as a child. I would try to right wrongs and get myself in detention on a regular basis. I would defend women that were hurt from anything from a simple break up, a rude word or violence. At the time I thought I was really making a difference, showing people around me the way men should treat women.
However, that was until I saw real violence against women. I have seen women hit in front of me. I have been beaten from some of those men while i stood in the way. I have stood silently when I have seen verbal abuse and I have heard of horrible situations that all I could do is pray for the women who have been hurt. Even more shocking as I have learned about Nancy Peltonen (Director of Marketing and Fundraising.) and stood by her side helping in anyway i could. I have heard people makes jokes about domestic violence to the women to the people who make are trying to stop it. There is nothing funny about it.
So, when I was asked to wear women's heels and help with the Walk A Mile in Her Shoes Fundraiser, I sucked up my pride and put on the red pair of heels. I even offered myself to be on the cover of Spotlight Magazine to bring awareness to the event . However, it takes more then me walking in shoes to make a impact, I am looking for donations to help Serene Harbor. These donations will support all the hard work this awesome organization does to bring awareness and stop the abuse.
For over 20 years, Serene Harbor has offered safe refuge and provided life changing services to more than 25,000 women and children who were victims of domestic violence in our community. There vision is a community that is educated about and welcoming to victims of domestic violence and their needs. Our mission is to be a leading advocate for reducing the incidence of domestic violence in Brevard County through intervention, prevention, social change, information, enlightenment, education and engagement of our community. Overcoming the effects of domestic violence is a monumental task for survivors and their children.

Internet Redemption - How The Way You Treat People Can Deeply Effect Your Business
Written by Travis Gibb
So, I learned today about a video of car dealership employees in Westport getting into a heated argument with a local pizza delivery man over $7 has led to Internet anger and a personal apology.
The video, posted on Liveleak, begins with a delivery man returning $7 in cash to the dealership that he had thought was a tip. By the end of the video, one dealership worker threatens to “put my foot in your a**” and another says he will call the delivery man’s manager and get him fired. The man took what he thought was a tip and left. The card dealership then called him back to deliver that what he thought was a 7 dollar tip on a 43 dollar order. They got into a huge debate and things got a little out of control. The dealership treated this man poorly but the internet finds a way to make things right.
The video was leaked on the internet and people have gone crazy. Commentators who claim to have seen the video before it was made private identify the dealership as F & R Auto Sales in Westport. Review pages of that dealership on Yelp and Google were being flooded with negative ratings on Wednesday. In addition, the dealership’s website struggled to load due to traffic of people attacking..Calls to the dealership through their main phone line did not go through. Messages left through the site’s Google Connect link, Facebook account, listed email, and on Twitter were not immediately returned. The Internet has gone on full on attack. There has even been a Go Fund Me account set up for the pizza delivery man that currently has 5,821 dollars on it.
This is the power of the digital age. As a webdesign company we help business build a online profile that highlights them in the most positive light. We help get them reviews and put them all over the internet to help anyone researching a company to know that its safe to do business with them. However, its up to each business to maintain their own integrity. We live in a digital world everyone has video taking smartphones in the pocket and can record anything you say. Always, hold yourself in the highest regard because anyone can be listening. The pizza delivery driver received a personal apology from the owner of the card dealership but it will take years to rebuild that company reputation.

ICE + ALS creates Awareness and Profit.
Written by Travis GibbChances are if you've spent any time on social media in past couple of weeks, you've seen some of your friends dump a bucket of ice water over their heads. Maybe you've even seen former United States President George Bush do it. Or the New England Patriots. Or Charlie Sheen. Or Robert Doweny Jr. This challenge has made social media explode over the last few days and tons of awareness has been to the cause.
It's you've taken the "Ice Bucket Challenge" yourself. If you have, you've done your part to raise awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS (commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease). In the process, you've taken part in one of the most explosively viral grassroots marketing campaign for a good cause. Here's how it works: Someone who wants to participate (or has been "challenged" via social media by a friend) simply films themselves dumping a bucket of ice water on their head. It's evocative of those celebratory Super Bowl or World Series moments, where a coach gets drenched with refreshing Gatorade. But in this case, it's personal. The dunkee then challenges a friend to do the same in the name of ALS, within 24 hours, and/or donate to the cause.
The viral challenge actually kicked off a few months ago, when Pete Frates, a 29-year-old Massachusetts resident diagnosed with ALS, started posting about it on social media with his father's help. It really gained traction, however, 10 days ago when friends and family of the former Boston College baseball player used it to raise awareness about his plight. Frates was diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disease, which has no cure, in 2012. He is now paralyzed, eats through a feeding tube and cannot talk. Last Thursday, Frates' parents, Nancy and John Frates, were joined by 200 Bostonians who doused themselves in Copley Square, making the local news – and, eventually, national headlines.

Great Photos Make Great Websites
Written by Ray MyersIt’s doubtful that anyone will argue that photography is part of any good website design. Who wants to stare at paragraphs of text and links with little else. When a website has only a few seconds to capture a visitor’s attention, engaging design and quality photography can be the difference between a new client and a lost opportunity.
The quality of the photography on your business’ website and promotional materials is an immediate indicator to any potential client of the quality of your product or service. Even if they aren't actively making a judgement, a blurry or sub-par photo will not properly represent your product's quality.

Purses with a Purpose Domestic Violence Shelter Fundraiser
Written by Ray MyersDomestic violence shelter Serene Harbor will be hosting their 8th Annual Purses with a Purpose Luncheon in only a couple weeks on Friday, September 27th.
The event features auctions over $5,000 worth of designer purses and is hugely popular every year. Last year they sold out after filling the Crowne Plaza to capacity. They seem to have found that perfect balance between a great cause and a fun event that really bring people in.
Luncheon tickets are still available online at sereneharbor.org for $40 but are likely to be gone very soon.
In addition to the designer purse fundraiser auction the event will include much more.
The guest speaker this year is Jada Collins; author, National Certified Counselor and Former Ebony Fashion Fair Supermodel.
There will be a silent auction with 50-70 items.
There will be 40+ vendors and raffles.
Don't miss this fabulous event kicking off Domestic Violence Awareness Month and while supporting Serene Harbor.
They may have a limited number of vendor opportunities left to network and sell merchandise at the event. A vendor table is only $125, and there are also sponsorship opportunities still available. If you have any questions, call Nancy Peltonen at 321-726-0402.
Effex Agency ios a proud supporter of Serene Harbor and the important work they do for women in Brevard County.

Optimizing Your Business for Local Search
Written by Ray MyersOne of the best ways to drive traffic to your small business website is to make sure you rank well in local listings. Over half of Google searches are from logged in users and many more are searching from mobile phones. In both cases, location information is available and automatically factored into the search results. So, someone searching for a restaurant or auto mechanic, will automatically see localized results.
